Though I've assigned an area of effect spell or talent in a companion's tactics, when it comes time to battle, they'll never use it. I tire of switching back and forth between characters just to use a single spell. Does anyone have a solution?AoE spells/talents not working in tactics Dragon Age Origins?
Are they being interrupted while trying to cast the spell? You need to get them the highest level of combat training to decrease the likeliness of them being interrupted during spellcasting.

What have you set as the "trigger" to casting the spell for example - self: surrounded by three enemies
maybe you need to fix that maybe its set to something that never happens so they never cast the spell
or
Are they running out of mana by the time they get to that tactic setting so they don't have enough mana to cast it?
